Blue Solutions is a global project implemented in partnership by GIZ, GRID-Arendal, IUCN and UN Environment, which runs from 2013 – 2018. It is financed by the German Environment Ministry (BMU) through its International Climate Initiative (IKI).
The Blue Solutions Initiative focused on developing and establishing a global platform to collate, share and generate knowledge as well as build capacity for sustainable management and equitable governance of our blue planet. The global platform and the capacity development materials are available to be used:
PANORAMA is a partnership of organisations working on conservation and sustainable development with the common goal to share success stories across regions and sectors for the use and adaptation in new contexts.
www.panorama.solutions features descriptions of all success stories. Users can enter and upload their own success story as well as browse existing ones.
All training materials are open source and available online: www.bluesolutions.info/recources
A pool of trainers with different professional backgrounds is available in our “Cookbook for Conveners” (p. 28).
- Blue Planning in Practice (PiP) is a training course which aims to enable the practical implementation of ecosystem-based marine and coastal planning and management. The training course builds on decades of practical experiences and learning. It was conceptualized with the guidance of over 30 marine and coastal spatial planning experts from around the globe.
- The Blue Integrating Ecosystem Services (IES) is a 3- to 5-day training course, which introduces the theoretical background of and practical steps for integrating ecosystem services into marine and coastal planning. It focuses on the linkages between ecosystem services and development objectives, tools and methods for assessing and valuing ecosystem services as well as entry points for decision-making.
- Blue Climate Change and Adaptation (CCA) is a training course that introduces the theory and practical starting points of climate change adaptation in coastal and marine areas. It enhances capacities among development actors and supports institutions in successfully taking action in CCA.
- The Conservation Finance course is a 2-day training course, which introduces opportunities and approaches for financing marine conservation, enabling factors for the development of conservation finance mechanism, and key steps for their establishment.
Blue Solutions has collaborated closely with the Sustainable Ocean Initiative (SOI) of the CBD and highlighted the impacts of its trainings and its support in sharing successes in international policy processes such as CBD COPs (e.g. in Mexico, Germany, Republic of Korea), SBSTTAs or in the context of contributing to achieving SDG14.
